I am a winter hiker. Please include me.

I haven’t joined any rides this year as most of them are down in Rhode Island on days that I am otherwise engaged.. Not to say that I don’t like peddling the Ocean State. I’ve done both the Blackstone Trail and the East Bay Trail and like them both.

Last week, I climbed Mt. Cabot, the Bulge and the Horn. I also peddled along the Lincoln Woods trail (with thin tires, no less) and abandoned my “pony” on the trail to Franconia Falls, which I hiked. I enjoy the Blue Hills because of their up-down-up-down nature which contrasts with the up-up-up-up-down-down-down-down of the White Mountains.

When the ground is covered, I will occasionally send out a notice for a night-hike in Adams Farm in Walpole (see Map is at Our group is a mix of X-C skiers and snow shoers. Shall I include you on that list?

Subject: [The-Foxboro-Cycling-Group] Fall & Winter Plans

Greetings,   Just to let you know, what I am planning.  I am not a Cold Weather Biker.  I will Post Rides, but I will look at the Weather more closely, as it gets Colder.  Last Year, we had 2 Rides in November, Indian Summer.  If anyone wants to Organize Rides, in the Foxboro Area, be it Road, Off- Road, or Winter Biking, please let me know.  When I became the Organizer a Year Ago, I stated,  this is just as much your site, as it is mine.  Feel free to step up & Organize a Ride or 2.

I have also started Hiking.  Those who know me, know I Hike all Winter.  That is how I stay in shape, during the Winter.  You also feel Better & it tends to keep the Winter Blues away.  I really do not have any special gear.  Mainly Wool / Hiking Socks, Hiking Shoes, ( Insulated if you plan to Hike when it is really Cold ) , & I like a Wicking Shirt.  Then I dress in Layers.

I plan to Post a couple of Hikes, on this site, to see if there is any interest.   The Hikes are usually 3-4 hours long.  Whenever possible, I have short-cuts, for those just starting out.  We Hike at a Good Pace, but stop at all intersections, so everyone can catch-up.  I have been Leading Hikes for about 4 Years & you will be surprised at the  Beauty, which can be found right in our own backyard.  I plan to invite my other Meet-Up, Rhode Warriors, to join us.   We have started building New Friendships, why not keep them going all Winter.

I have Posted this under Discussions.  See the Blue Bar, at the top of the page.  Should you have any Questions or Comments, feel free to reply there.  That way, everyone who is interested, will know what is going on & can add their ideas.

Last September, when this Site was in need of an Organizer, after conferring with a couple of Members, I became the New  Organizer.  After Riding with you for a Year,  I wanted to let you know, I am GLAD  I made that decision.

Thanks for joining me on our Bike Rides, this Year,  & believe it or not, Charities are already sending me info, for Rides next Year.

Dave N.
