Santa Cruz Vegans

We have a big and beautiful vegan community, which is quickly developing in terms of events, projects, and discussions. We’d absolutely love to see you at an event, or, better yet — host or volunteer one! We would love to have help with any types of vegan events, whether they be focused on recreation, connection, or advocacy.

Local vegan nonprofits and groups: If you are interested in vegan advocacy, discussion, or animal rights, please join our partner group Santa Cruz Animal Activists on Facebook (or contact Luke). Our events are also posted here, and meetings typically are held the first Saturday of each month 2pm @ Ocean View Park. We’d absolutely love for you to join our meetings and online community — whether it’s to host events, volunteer, discuss, listen, or even just to enjoy yummy vegan snacks with us — there is no requirement to participate in advocacy. Besides, just by being vegan, YOU ARE ALREADY A VEGAN ADVOCATE 🙏 and in a truly huge way.

For our more social / active vegan group, join Santa Cruz Vegans on Facebook. It’s a very lively community, great for discussion and sharing. Or add our partner group (Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Vegan) on Instagram. We partner with Little Hill Sanctuary, Santa Cruz VegFest, and Eat for the Earth — all of which have amazing, regular events and volunteer opportunities! We also recently founded Until All See, a Santa Cruz based film screening series which helps organize and unify educational vegan film screening events locally and abroad. I’m actively looking for more support, volunteers, and hosts in any and every city (contact Luke with questions or support). Even if your time and involvement is limited, a simple like or comment really helps us to build momentum and feel supported 🙏

Events and involvements: We understand that joining a new community or attending a first event can be a little scary. Your organizer would like to remind you that there is no pressure to stay for any specific amount of time or participate in any specific way besides by being reasonably respectful (see below). If you just want to scope the scene, you are more than welcome to. And even if you leave after 2 minutes (which hasn’t happened yet, since we’re pretty cool and nice vegans 😎), we’ll still be so glad that you came!

Respect and communication: While this is an easy-going group without many rules or requirements, we do ask that you remain respectful when connecting with others online or attending our events. The intention is to provide a safe platform of support and peaceful events for all. If ever a disagreement or dispute would arise, your host would recommend using nonviolent or empathic communication (I statements, etc.) to express yourself and fully understand others. Respecting others is respecting ourselves 🌿
