Gilbert & Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore: The Next Generation"

Come join your fellow geeks for a performance of the classic Gilbert & Sullivan musical "HMS Pinafore," with a geeky twist: the styles and costuming are inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation.

More info: http://starshippinafore.tumblr.com/

Curtains open at 8:00, but obviously we want to get there early. I suggest we all meet at 7:00 at CoHo, the coffee shop across the street in the first floor of Tresidder Union, in between the Campus Bike Shop and Jamba Juice.

Tickets for the show are $20 each, or $15 for seniors, $10 for students/youths. All tickets are Will Call, so you'll have to pick them up at the box office, ~30 mins prior to the show. Purchase them independently and do so quick before they sell out! Get them here:

http://ticket.stanford.edu/single/eventDetail.aspx?p=4891

This show is open to the public, so no attendee limit, but please be considerate when you RSVP. I'll be looking for everyone who RSVP's before we head into the auditorium at 7:30, so only RSVP if you know you will show up!

Most people seemed to enjoy Pinafore last Friday. The Savoyards are planning to stage "The Sorcerer" in mid-May, and will be planning / discussing the show this weekend. Might be fun to drop by!

"You are all invited to attend a Savoyards gathering this Sunday from 7-10pm in the Law Lounge where we will discuss our upcoming show, Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Sorcerer." The Sorcerer will be performed mid May and marks the Savoyards' 40th anniversary. If you have any interest in being in the show, being on the production staff, or just want to come check out our plans for the spring, please come. "

FYI, just received this from the President of our Board: "The Savoyards meeting scheduled for Sunday, February 10 from 7-10pm has been moved to Wednesday, February 13th, from 7-10pm in the Meg Pitts Room of Toyon Hall. I apologize for any inconvenience."

Hi all. First meetup with this group. Is there any group planning food beforehand (ideally walking distance)?

The ticket website said "general admission", but when I went to purchase a ticket, it showed me a specific seat assignment. Is this event truly general admission? I don't want to end up sitting by myself.

The first person who arrives is welcome to block off 16 seats, but please release the unclaimed ones by 7:50. FYI, there's been and will be some good publicity about the show, so do not count on there being light attendance.

"An unexpected error has occurred. Please call the box office to verify that your order was processed successfully."

Not sure what box office phone number to call...

The Stanford Ticket Office # (650)[masked], but they're open only 9-5 and be prepared for a long wait.

By the way, tickets are available at the door as well (cash or credit card). I would just suggest showing up a little early to buy them (our lobby opens at 7).

Hi everyone, I'm the set designer for the show and wanted to invite you to come up onto the set after the show ends and take pictures on the bridge. You know you want to! And more importantly, I'd like to say 'hi.' Can't wait to sign up for events with you guys in the future. :)

Don't know how much say you have in such things, but you lot really need to do 'Utopia, Limited' at some point. For some reason that one never seems to get performed.

Ooo I wish! So, as I understand, it normally does not get performed very often due to its content and higher production cost. However, a few of the Savoyards were recently discussing a twist that would make it easier to connect with a modern audience. Maybe we will see a Utopia yet! (But our next production is planned to be Sorcerer). In related rare G&S news, Lyric Theatre in San Jose plans to perform The Grand Duke in June.

The Stanford Savoyards are generally pretty good. Loved their production of Ruddigore last year. Bear on mind, they don't actually make any changes to the libretto for their themed productions, so if you didn't like opera before, you'll probably also have trouble with this.

Oh, and if *do* enjoy opera, the Lamplighters are doing a production of Princess Ida in Mountain View next month, and based on their other productions I've seen, it's going to be absolutely amazing.

I'm glad you enjoyed Ruddigore! We had a lot of fun with that production. And yes, I love the Lamplighters too! (So sad I'll be out of town when they perform in MV though)

    What's parking like?

    January 25, 2013

    • Adam H.

Looks like it, on that map. I've parked on campus in the evening before with no issue. I don't think you need a pass except maybe in specific spots, which will be clearly labelled.

      January 25, 2013

    • Dane

First come first serve, no pass required. I've never had much trouble finding parking for their productions.
