I wanted to quickly share some information about a fun group that some of you may be interested in checking out. InterNations recently offered me a free admission to one of their happy hour events. I'm glad I accepted their offer to check out their organization, because I got to meet a ton of really interesting people. InterNations describes themselves as an expatriates community for people living and working abroad as well as all ʺglobal minds.ʺ
So, Houston InterNations is basically a great group of new transplants to Houston from all over the world. In addition to meeting folks from all around the world, I found a few Americans in attendance as well. The event I went to was very well attended, definitely well over a hundred people in attendance.
In addition to these well-attended events, it looks like they have an active online forum and city guides filled with tons of useful city information to help people new to a city transition to their new surroundings.
Pros: Easy way to meet cool fun people from all around the world. Plenty of events every month at different venues around Houston.Cons: A bit pricey. You have to pay a fee for each happy hour, although you can attend all events for free if you're willing to become an "Albatross" member (by paying a small monthly fee). I have already taken the plunge and joined as an Albatross member.
Their web site is http://www.internations.org/
You should definitely consider checking out this group. Maybe I will see you at one of their upcoming events?
