Memorial Day Weekend Camping and Climbing

We (a group of 9 of us so far) will be doing one Camping Trip before the Summer Season hits full steam and are going to Big Bend National Park (the Yosemite of Texas supposedly, can't say I have ever been). To break up the long drive we are going to do the following:

Friday, 5/23
- Some people who want to go climbing will be leaving early on Friday at 8am, (others who do not want to do the climbing portion can leave in the evening) at Greenbelt (we should arrive around 11 am and will climb for about 3-4 hours).  We will be doing sport climbing ranging from 5.7 and up.

- We will then check-in at 3:30 pm and stay at the Hill Country Resort located at 306 Farm to Market 2673, Canyon Lake, TX 78133 (drive time from houston is 2 hours and 45 minutes).  Cost of rooms will depend on how many go, but should run about $20 - $30 per bed.

- Friday evening will are meeting in San Marcos and have a group dinner at 9pm (location TBD)

Saturday, 5/24
- We will be driving on Saturday am (leaving sometime after 8am but before 10 am)

- Drive time is 6 hours to Big Bend

- to help break up the drive we will stop and have Brunch in Fredericksburg, Tx (location TBD) and we will load up on extra supplies for the camping trip there (e.g., waters, firewood, food, etc..)

- Estimated arrival at the campsite in the afternoon around 4pm - pitch our tents and go for an evening hike along the water and catch the sunset

- The camp site will have showers and electricity available and wifi will be available in certain areas

- Dinner in the evening (the way we camp is we designate teams of people to cook a meal)

- Cost of entire Camping part: $45 (this includes car, park/camp site fees, supplies, firewood, stove/gas and food snacks & drink but excludes: gas and the individual meals - for those who  haven't gone with us before, we cook up a storm)

Sunday, 5/25
Morning we will have Breakfast at the camp site and then head out to do some Hiking and Boating activities

Lunch - Sandwiches, Snacks and drinks for everyone (to be packed up before we leave)

8pm Dinner

Monday, 5/26
Light Breakfast - TBD

- We'll Packup and drive back home this time back through the Amistand National Park and stopping in San Antonio for a late lunch/early dinner there at the Riverwalk

- Evening: Some of us may stay in the Hill Country area on Monday night to go climbing on Tuesday morning (cost: $20 - $30 per bed) most likely at Pace Bend or Reimers or Madrock

The only caveat is once you commit and say yes, you are COMMITTED and the fees should be paid right away are not refundable (you can always find someone new to take your spot though).

It will be warm there so pack for very warm weather..... (e.g., bring sun tan lotion, sprays, and shade)

Hope you can make it (as of now, there are 9 of us going--- of which 4 are confirmed for climbing, 2 of us which will be doing lead, on Friday)

Is anyone going up just to Austin for climbing? I might have plans near Austin this weekend and might be interested in climbing Friday, but not joining the trip out to big bed.
