"UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT"

He nailed the sign to the door, brushing away the cobwebs. Hearing the creaking floorboard behind him, he turned and said:

"Hi, you must be one of the MeetUp members! I've just taken over this group and I'm looking forward to revitalizing it. If you're a writer seeking tips on writing or an author curious about publishing your book, then this is the group to be in!

"I've set three objectives for our group: (1) improving our writing skills; (2) learning about publishing alternatives; and (3) learning how to market our books once they are published.

"This group offers a wonderful opportunity for those writers who work from home and don't get out much to meet their peers. At each MeetUp, we'll introduce ourselves and what we're working on, then focus on either writing workshops or seminars devoted to publishing or marketing. If you have anything you have written that you would like to share, please bring it. I do ask that you RSVP if you plan to attend. Part of being an organizer includes being organized, which is hard to do if I don't have a clue how many people are showing up. Likewise, if you do RSVP and your plans change, please adjust your RSVP accordingly.

"One word of caution: I know from experience that many MeetUp groups tend to attract people who prey on members to sell them products or services -- if that is your only purpose in joining this group, then please leave now!

"Also, this is a MeetUp group, so if you don't plan on ever actually attending meetings in person (as opposed to just online) then this probably isn't the group for you. But if you like everything I've told you, welcome aboard."

He smiled. Then he dropped the hammer on his foot. Off to a good start....
