Free Crash Course - Intro to Front End Engineering

Overview

Join our Front End Instructor, Mike Sweeney (https://www.meetup.com/The-Iron-Yard-Las-Vegas/members/7383553/) for an introduction to Javascript. This course is meant for beginners, no previous coding experience is necessary.

Outcomes

We'll do a hands on workshop and introduce basic programming concepts by creating a simple game using Javascript, HTML, and CSS.

Requirements

Laptop that is WiFi capable. Laptops are required to complete the course. However, if you do not have one and would simply like to attend as an observer, you're certainly welcome to sign up and you'll still learn a lot!

Optionally, your favorite text editor (e.g. Sublime Text, Vim, Atom, Visual Studio Code, etc. - not a word processor like Word). We will be using Codepen.io as an optional replacement to these.

Agenda

This Meetup will be broken into 2 sections:

1. Javascript overview: The first thirty minutes will be an introduction to Javascript.

• How is it different from other languages?

• What type of applications and problems is it typically used for?

• What resources are available online to learn at home?

• What is The Iron Yard's Front End Engineering program like?

2. Javascript hands-on: The second portion will be about an hour to an hour and a half of walkthrough to create a basic game and get you started in Javascript, HTML, and CSS. A free crash course in Front End Engineering!
