Join The Iron Yard as we participate in the global Hour of Code movement, introducing programming fundamentals and the craft of coding to the world! The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. No experience needed. Ages 4 to 104. This workshop is designed for beginners, introducing you to HTML and CSS, two languages required for Front-End Development. You will take away a basic understanding of the uses of HTML and CSS.

You'll spend the session learning from Artemij Fedosejev (https://www.linkedin.com/in/artemij), The Iron Yard's Front-End Engineering instructor, an experienced professional app developer and trainer.

To get the full experience of the workshop you will need the following:

  • Bring a MacBook running at least Yosemite or a PC. Also, please bring your charger!

What ages is the classes open to?

18 and up.

What kind of computer will the students need?

This course requires a MacBook (Air or Pro) or a PC.

Any programs/software that need to be installed on the computer?

Yes, please download and install the Google Chrome browser and Sublime Text 3 (http://www.sublimetext.com/3) before class begins.

What is the cost of the class?

FREE. The Iron Yard believes strongly that programming must be accessible to all, and participating in the global (free) Hour of Code is one way we inch toward making that belief a reality.

Do the students need to know how to touch-type?

No, excellent typing skills are not required.

What do students need to know before taking the class?

The course is for beginners. Imagination and love for computers are the only requirements for the class (though everyone will need to bring their own laptop).
