Just wanted to take a moment to welcome everyone to the group! I see some familiar faces from a previous book club I was a part of, as well as many new faces! I'm so excited to get started and meet everyone!
This is the first Meetup group I've started, so I am still trying to figure out how everything is done. I just wanted to send a couple of thoughts as to how I want this group to work. Of course, I welcome member input. I want this to be a fun and interesting group for everyone - where we can relax, have a glass of wine, discuss books and make some new local friends in the process!
A few things I'd like to say...
I'd like to always have the books we'll be reading planned out three month's in advance, because we're all busy and this gives plenty of time for everyone to read the books and know what's coming next! In the future, we can discuss how our monthly book will be selected. We can all suggest ideas and then do a poll, or we can take turns selecting the book, whatever everyone decides. I'd like to read all kinds of books - mystery, memoirs, chick lit, classics, political, best sellers, etc.!
Second, I welcome suggestions as to time and location! We don't always have these Wednesdays at 7, and March and April dates are subject to change, if this is a bad time for a lot of people. We can change the night or time, or do our meetup over weekend brunch if that's what everyone wants to do. Once we all know each other, we can even have them in people's homes or building's community room. Let me know what works best for you! There's already several women's book clubs in Hoboken, so I would prefer to keep ours local to downtown Jersey City (or perhaps, once in awhile, not too far from the PATH in Hoboken).
Last, if you RSVP "yes", please try to come to the meetup! Of course, things come up, and if this is the case, please change your RSVP on the website or send me an email or text letting me know you can't make it.
I look forward to meeting everyone in February, and I welcome your comments on how to make this a fun group for everyone! You can reply to this message, which sends an email directly to me, or post on the group's message board for all to see!
