That is great to hear there are photographers out there that are willing to help. And I certainly will appreciate your help in identifying them.

All together, I could use 7 to 12 photographers on Saturday morning, APRIL 21 ST and 5 photographers on Sunday Morning, APRIL 22 ND. And we have a Jazz Festival starting at 4:30 p.m. It would be nice to have two non-flash photographers to cover that event.

I would like the volunteer photographers to email me to let me know they are commiting to the project just as soon as they can, together with their contact information.

This is a charity event we would like to build. Last year we had about 300 Triathletes. This year we expect more. Next year we want even more. You get it. And we could use volunteer photographers to help us. Making photos available to the athletes, their friends, and their families, will actually encourage many to come back the next year.

My contact information:

The mornings of the event you can certainly reach me on my cell.

Also, I would like everyone involved to email me the Friday afternoon or evening before the event to confirm their intentions to shoot that weekend.

For those shooting the adult's Triathlon, you need to arrive at the Lake Mirror Auditorium (the old civic ceneter on Lake Mirror) at OR BEFORE 6:30 Saturday morning for the photographer's sign in and meeting. Once everyone assembles, it will last all of 15 minutes. Remember it will take you a while to find parking given that there will be at least 500 athletes arriving at the same time. The old civic center parking lot will be roped off for the bicycle transition area.

And there are actually two events occuring Saturday morning. There is the 5K RUN that starts at 7:15 a.m. There will be about 300 or so runners at this event, which should wrap up within an hour or so.

And also on Saturday morning there is the Child of the Son TRIATHLON, which starts happening about 7:30 a.m. with a staggered start. The athletes form a single line and begin entering the water of Lake Mirror one at a time. Each athlete wears a timing/tracking device that keeps their time for them. We may have as many as 400 triathletes. This race should wrap up about 10:30 a.m., with awards beginning at 11 a.m.

For those shooting the Youth Triathlon, you need to arrive at the Gills/Fontaine YMCA on Sleepy Hill Road in north Lakeland at OR BEFORE 6:30 SUNDAY morning. We will also have a photographer's meeting on the back of the pool deck at 6:30 a.m. The event starts at 7 a.m. and should wrap up by 9:30 a.m. The Jazz Festival starts at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and will wrap up by 10 p.m.

Again, I could use 7 to 12 photographers for Saturday morning, and 5 photographers for Sunday morning.

I will need two photographers willing to dedicate themselves to taking finish line shots at the end of the Triathlon and two photographers to do the same at the finish line at the end of the 5K Race. We are looking for a photo of each triathlete as they go over the finish line. Given the staggered start, this can be done. These y could also help take Awards photos at 11 a.m.
We will need just one photographer willing to dedicate their effort to taking at the finish line shots at the end of the Youth Triathlon on Sunday morning.

The Lakeland Rotary Club will ask for the photographers to sign a release the morning of the event, permitting The Lakeland Rotary Club to own the work, while permitting the photographers to use their images in their ports as well. If there were a particular image a participating athlete wants pulled from public presentations or posting, the club will want to honor such a request. We don't want to embarrass any of the participants, just make them proud.

Several days prior to the event, I will get back to everyone to let you know what your assignment will be. If you have a preference, cetainly express it in your initial email to me. Once you get your assignment, if you have a problem with it, just get back to me righ-a-way and I will see if we can accomodate you. You can visit http://www.COTSlakela... to see the route maps for the swimming, biking and running.

For the triathletes, we are looking to get a photo of each athlete running, swimming, and biking. We need some of our photographers taking a picture of almost every athlete as they go by. We will also be looking for the genuinely creative shots. Once you finish you particular assignment, then go for the creative shots. Just remember to stop back by the Lake Mirror Center auditorium to let us copy your files.

I will have a couple of laptops at the Lake Mirror Auditorim to download your memory cards. If you also wish to keep the files on your card, too, that is fine. If you need the space open on your card to go take more photos, we will save you photos in a separate file which we can get back to you later in the week. If you are shooting raw files, please have the camera create jpgs at the same time if your equipment has the capability to do so. We are looking for photos under 350 K that we can upload to the race site within 48 hours of the events.

It would be great if you wanted to edit your photos and email the results to us. But first, let us get the untouched file to get it on the web immediately. Your post-production skills will be appreciated when your edited photos arrive later, but let us get as many photos up as quickly as possible.

If you would like to participate, each photographer can submit no more than 3 edited photos of their work by the Monday morning one week following the event. I will have some of my photography friends chose the best three of the photos. We will share the photos with all of your fellow photographers. No money here, just bragging rights.
