Surrey. Yes, it's been a while since we went that way: and with one last chance to snatch a walk before the clocks go back, let's take it on with a vengeance.
This walk will take on the Surrey Hills less travelled: a ramble of let's say some 14 miles (22 km) starting out from the village of Witley along the Greensand Ridge to... well, let's see how the mood takes us. We'll pencil in an ultimate goal of Guildford, but this city has a well-known but confounding trait that the closer you get to it, the further it is away; so whether we'll actually get there is another matter. Rest assured, however: there will be a pub and a railway station at the end. And of course, as ever a pub for lunch and who knows maybe the odd one inbetween. And sandwiching the pub stops some lovely walking up hills, past meadows and crossing the odd heath. And I'll throw in a megalithic hill fort, now wooded and overgrown, for free, how does that sound? Class - see you there.
(As ever, I'll sort out the tickets'n'stuff once we're assembled at Waterloo - never fear!)
