The Lotus in the Desert is a community for those who are interested in mindfulness meditation and would like to meditate regularly in a supportive group environment.
Though most of the techniques and discussions are drawn from the mindfulness meditative practices of Tibetan Buddhism and Zen schools, the meditation sessions will be secular, and people of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome. There are no secrets to the practice. There are no rituals. The meditations are simple and based on inculcating wisdom and compassion for all through simple awareness of thought, speech and action.
This is a peer-led support group and I am a layman, and not a certified teacher. However, I have benefitted from some excellent instructions from my teachers Ven. Robina Courtin, Glen Svensson, Jimi Neal and Mark Smith, and would love to share my learnings with you.
A typical session includes guided meditations by an experienced mindfulness practitioner, readings from contemporary leaders in mindful mediation such as Thich Nyat Hanh, Alan Wallace, Pema Chodron, and Jon Kabat-Zinn, and group discussions.
This group is ideal for beginners! Experienced practitioners are very welcome too.
