Meeting Spot

We are meeting at the Terra Nova Sharing Farm which is at 2631 Westminster Hwy.

Go west along Westminster Highway past No 1 Rd. Take the second right onto Barnard Drive, then the second left to get back onto Westminster Highway. At 2631 Westminster Highway (for directions through Google Maps use 2631 Westminster Way), the second of two stone entrances, turn right into a gravel parking lot. Walk north through the community gardens and you’ll arrive at the Sharing Farm.

Getting yourself there

Consider carpooling. There are often Lower Mainland Green Team volunteers willing to provide a ride! If you need a ride log into your meetup account, click on "join us" on this page and leave a message briefly describing where you can offer or need a ride from. You can also leave a message at the bottom of this page in the box where it says "post a comment". Don't forget to chip in for gas if you get a ride ($5 for every hour of drive is about right)

Take transit. To find out the best route go to: type in the location you are starting from, the destination and the date and time you will be begin the trip.

Ride your bicycle. There are bicycle maps here:


  • Meet at 9.50am
  • Sign-in
  • Instruction will be given by the host about the work you will be doing
  • You will: move compost, help rake and shape the planting beds, plant seeds and transplants (some veggies that may be planted might include: carrots, beets, parsnips, lettuce, kale, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, leeks, tomatoes). 

What to bring

  • Your rain jacket in case it is raining. Our events in the rain have still been great fun!
  • Gardening gloves if you have them (otherwise they'll be provided for you)
  • Ideal footwear: waterproof hiking boots, sturdy outdoor shoes, rubber boots. No open toe shoes, heels or fashionable shoes/boots.
  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirtying
  • Water (to bring with you to the work site)

What will be provided for you

  • Gloves, tools and equipment. If you have your own gardening gloves, bring them.
  • Snacks for the break
  • Instruction - The host will give you the run down about the work we will be doing (you don't need to have experience to participate). There will be a safety talk and an orientation of the site.
  • A volunteer letter emailed to you after the event to confirm your hours if you need it

About the the Sharing Farm

The farm is run by a registered charity whose mandate is to grow food for the Richmond Food Bank and community meal programs. The vegetables grown on the Terra Nova Sharing Farm 2.5 acres are donated to the Richmond Food Bank and other charitable organizations. All the produce is grown organically and the farm hosts, on average, 2300 volunteers per year. The farm is nestled inside a 60 acre public park on the northwest tip of Richmond. Over the last 10 years, over 200,000 lbs of produce has been donated to the community.

    The company I work for is volunteering at the farm on this same date/time and I'm organizing for my office so I will hopefully see you all there! This will be my third year helping out at the farm - its a lovely place and the work is very satisfying.
