14:15 Drinks and Networking

It’s time to regenerate the group, and what better place to start than after the hustle bustle of Social Media Week?! So now it’s time to sit back, enjoy and share what you have discovered!

The day will involve group discussions along with our expert panelists on different social media platforms that will help further improve YOUR Meetup group. It will even let others have the chance to hear about YOUR experiences of social media for your meetup group, e.g. Facebook, Twitter or blogging, to help your meetup group in different ways; being it to help sustain group members, or update people on what’s going on!

**We are still looking for Meet Up organisers to help run the day! Please feel free to post a message below if interested and we will email you the details.**

Looking forward to seeing you at the party of the month!

Universally encompassing stats are now available for your meetup group. It will be free to use for members of your meetup however each organiser will have to pay a fee for initial setup and ongoing maintenance of the data.

Jazz, I missed the last event. Is your idea of 'universally' encampassing stats going to be real?

Very informative meetup, good atmosphere, though initially a difficult venue to find as I'm not totally familar with oxford street!

    Absolutely amazing!
Yes there is always a room for development, yet it is an amazing opportunity to meet other meet-up organisers as well as support and evolve the whole meet-up concept more in an organised and faster progressing/growing way!

    Thank you!

Really great especially for a new Meetup organiser!! Lots of tips, sharing and just very nice people :D

The structure of the meetup facilitated extensive exchange of views and tips as well as concerns. I'm honoured I was able to help facilitate one of the round table discussions as well as offer tips and strategies in my keynote presentation.

Whats your view on finding ways for the right members to connect with each other?

Bernie and I were saying that at so many meetups we know people who really ought to meet and that it would be good if there was a way of getting people linked up using Social Vitamins principles that conect people who are similar, opposite and complementary with one another. Also if that could be enabled independently of the organiser having to arrange it then that would really ramp up rapport and resonance between members online and offline.

Would organisers like to get help ensuring the right people connect at each meet up they run? Email me to share your view on taking part in a pilot around this challenge and lets see if we can raise the resonance.

Thank you Bernie&the team. Excellent day, fun informative, open to debate. I was glad to share my experiences of setting up the London European Club, the advice I got was useful, and some tips I got are very valuable. It would be good to have a meetup workshop like this one at least every 6 months if not more often.
    Thank You!!!

Overall a great experience... I learnt a few really good things which will be really helpful to me... and although I think there is lots of room for improvement - I do think the team did a great job running the meetup, I hope that the feedback they got will make future meetups even better! Thanks Guys!

The discussion format was very useful, I would suggest to make each session 15 minutes long, 10 minutes is a tad too short.

For future events in the barcamp format I would suggest the following topics: - Money handling (given the interest the topic raised in the comments)
    - Venues: how people are sourcing venues for their events, how could we have a central resource to share useful findings...
    - Sponsorship: people that have been useful getting sponsorships could share their tips.
    - And even more social media (as a whole): I think we just scratched the surface.

I don't think there's a bad thing to say about this meetup. It's just so unexpectedly brilliant. Location, presentation, networking, lunch, everything was fab. And the free gifts too? Are you kidding me? Perfect.

Many thanks for a very well thought out and well organised day. It covered exactly what I needed it to and gave me plenty of ideas. Just the matter of putting some of them in to practice now. The food was just right and everyone involved in the day was very friendly and welcoming. Thanks everyone.

What I have found works is collaboration: My biggest and most successful events have all been collaborative: If you serve the same or similar market to me (personal development, opening the heart, love etc), and you like the idea of collaboration, then do get in touch

I'm really excited about Staurday, meeting all of you brilliant people and exchanging ideas which will help out various groups. Just from these comments here I can tell that it's going to be an enlightening day.

Well, Members have the right to review your meetup. Isn't it time that as organisers we could rate members on the ratio of
Total Meetups/Total RSVPs/ Total 'Yes' RSVPs/ Actual Attendance
I'm seriously thinking of writing an app to quiz the meetup database to allow people to get these statistics and to ensure members who act with integrity are honoured and those who don't have a discussion opened with them to understand how they might become more tangibly involved.

Really looking forward to Saturdays event, does anyone have any questions?

    February 23, 2012

  • Robb

How do you do that, Tzctlpc? That would be useful for repeat "no shows".

By the way, Nicole, I'm sure PayPal shouldn't charge you a transaction fee if you do a refund - as long as you process it as a refund, rather than just sending them money back. (I did a quick test of this with two PayPal accounts a little while back...)

    February 23, 2012

  • Jose

I don't throw people out, but I suspend them from the group if they don't attend having said they would, so they can't join new Meetups for a while. This has probed enough in my case.

    February 23, 2012

  • Nicole

Goke that sounds great but can't really ask my member to get a Barclays account just for this. I'll keep my eye on it for when it changes to everyone. Thanks for that. Adam my first response was to you about paypal.
Sorry everyone new to this whole thing.

    February 23, 2012

  • Nicole

Olga to answer your question is for things that don't cost any money like going to a coffee house or just to reserve a table but we're paying separate bills for drinks.

    February 23, 2012

  • Nicole

Yes exactly but when I did it the member got a full refund but it still cost me a transaction fee or 20p. Not much but when you only have a £5 holding fee and have 40 people it adds up.

You can reverse (ie refund) PayPal payments, and you get your fees back. I'm assuming you want this to make sure people turn up when they rsvp yes?

Hi Nicole, I just discovered something called Barclays Pingit (http://www.barclays.co.uk/Mobil...).
Basically you download a free app onto your smartphone and you can send up to £300 to a reciever for free. Currently, the sender has to have a Barclays Current Account, but that'll be updated soon. So attendees could send you the "hold" fee using this app and then you send it back on the event day when they turn up. You can check the link above for yourself.

    February 23, 2012

  • Skinny Rich C.

Nicole, please take it with some humour: are creating some sort of punishing system? Why pay and then turn up to get your money back? I am just curious.
    O x

    February 23, 2012

  • Jose

The only service I can think of that would work like that is a regular bank account. Any web based service will want its cut from each transaction or a regular monthly fee. Another possibility is to get paid in Amazon gift vouchers, they are useful because you can buy pretty much anything there, but you can't get the cash.

    February 23, 2012

  • Nicole

Thank you Olga but they seem to charge fees too. I just want a system where I can charge a "hold" fee for an event and when they show up I can refund it without having to pay for anything myself.

    1 · February 22, 2012

  • Skinny Rich C.

    Yes, Nicole,
google has it's own system and it's very efficient or many do not mind paying cash.
It's called google check-out. Very easy to set-up too.

    Olga.
