Meet up to discuss "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion

Hello Everyone-

Thank you for taking the time to vote and creating the opportunity to read and discuss what I hope will be one of the A -listers for our book club. The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Didion) is an account of the year following the death of the author's husband's and her daughter's illness. The book won the 2005 National Book Award for Nonfiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Book_Award_for_Nonfiction) and was a finalist for both the National Book Critics Circle Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Book_Critics_Circle_Award) and the Pulitzer Prize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulitzer_Prize) for Biography/Autobiography. The book is 240 pages so I think 5 weeks from Dec 12th is sufficient amount of time to finish the book without being stressed for time. As always, nothing is set in stone and the date can be changed if needed.

During our last meet up I asked if anyone wanted some books I have either already read or just lost interest in reading them. One member responded with a great idea to have a book swap and many of us including myself agreed that a book swap is a great idea for any member to swap any and all books they don't want anymore. The easiest way to hold the book swap is to do it the same day and place as the meet up. The only element I am going back and forth with is the time frame - how long should the book swap be? I would love to hear feedback from members on what time frame they think would best serve us. Take into consideration that the book swap would have to either occur before the meetup or the book swap starts earlier than the meet up and continues during the meetup but set aside so the meetup is not disrupted. Lastly, any member who wants to bring books to swap or just give away, could you please email me prior to the meetup letting me know this?
