Metaphysics can be a priori speculation upon questions that are unanswerable to scientific observation, analysis, or experiment. A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation. 

This group is dedicated to learning more about various New Age and self-improvement topics.

We are willing to believe that there may be phenomena not easily explained by science (though science definitely has an important place in an informed life). We think that as long as people have positive intentions and realistic expectations, many New Age concepts can improve people’s lives. Whether you believe in the “hoo doo” or not, psychological research has demonstrated the power of the placebo effect. Believing something makes you more open to noticing it. We live in an uncertain age, so we’ll take certainty (real or hopeful) wherever we can get it!

The New Age topics that this group is interested in are Metaphysics, Tarot, angels and guides, palmistry, crystals, psychic abilities, synchronicity, intention, intuition development, auras, the I-Ching, past lives, astrology, and general spirituality. Self-improvement and other spiritual topics that this group explores are health, diet, communication, goal achievement, happiness/depression, Buddhism, Taoism, the Bhagavad Gita, art, poetry, and meditation.  (Note, while we value the belief, this group is not interested in applied Wicca, i.e. functioning as a Coven.)  Think of this group like a book club without assigned readings: we work on learning new ideas, but do not focus on practicing rituals or tools actively during the meetings.  Suggestions for behavioral tools may be provided for individual practice outside of the meetings.  All members are encouraged to take what seems useful to you, and ignore the rest.

This group hopes to attend local events and lectures related to the interests of the group, have meetings to help each other progress in our metaphysical knowledge, be a forum to share ideas and resources.  Meetings will be casual discussions lead by group members or experts around a New Age theme. A major focus of the meetings will be to give members metaphysical tools and knowledge that can be used to improve their lives. 

This group welcomes all people who have a genuine interest in learning about new age topics.  No one is forced to adopt all ideas and suggestions discussed in the meetings.  We may even respectfully disagree! However, the group seeks to be a safe place for discussion and expects members to treat each participant with kindness, respect, and compassion.

Additional Note: While we appreciate that many people make a living helping others using New Age expertise, this group is not meant to be commercial.  Please do not contact other members directly to sell goods or services.  If a member is aware of your business and contacts you, that is fine.  We ask that work and the group be kept separate.  We just want this group to be a space where members can feel safe and not pressured into anything.
