SAFETY
Participation is at your own risk! Everyone is responsible for their own safety. Upon joining Meetup, we were all asked to read and check that we agree to the "Terms Of Service" Specifically, item 6.2 states that only you are responsible for your own safety while participating in a Meetup event, not the Organizer. (Terms of Service can be read by clicking on it at the bottom left side of the Meetup page) You agree to hold the Organizer/Assistant Organizers harmless.



RULES
Just this: Use common sense, be safe, and have fun.


THE GROUP
This group was established to give everyone a venue for recreational hiking and to meet others with similar interests within confines of the group; always providing a safe and comfortable environment while enjoying the great outdoors.


MEMBERS
The group members tend to be hikers at all levels of endurance. If you can walk three miles in an hour with a few hills, you should be able to keep up. During most hikes, there are people with varied hiking ability, so you should have no problem finding someone to hike with at your level.

ORGANIZATION
Most venues will be upon established hiking trails. The events will be described to the best of the Organizers ability. Most hikes are familiar to the Organizers and they know the route well. Other hikes may be new territory for the Organizer, so the route well be selected as we proceed. We try to describe the hikes to the best of our ability, and stick to the description as much as possible, since that is what people signed up for, but occasionally the plan will need to be changed due to circumstances outside of our control, such as trail closures or bad weather.


ORGANIZER
The Organizer is not necessarily the leader nor trail guide of the event. Organizers are not professional guides. There is no one in charge of the hike; but rather people interested in hiking together as a group as facilitated by the Event Organizer. The Organizer is the facilitator who pays Meetup fees for access to the Meetup Site and maintains the Web Site.


BEFORE THE EVENT
Hikes are usually limited to around 20 people so as not to overwhelm the trails with too many people.

If you RSVP yes, please change your RSVP if you will not be able to attend, even at the last minute. Organizer will check email just before leaving for event for final head count.

Many events fill up fast with a wait list. The sooner you know you can not attend and change your RSVP, the sooner a wait listed person can be added. A lottery system may be used for some events.

If someone is habitually a no show, the Organizer may change their RSVP to "No" if there is a wait list so as to accommodate someone else.




AT THE EVENT
The hike will begin very close to the posted start time. If you will be late, the Organizer usually posts cell phone for notification (not all venues have cell phone coverage, though) and a map can be left somewhere so you can catch up.

Please attempt to match your physical ability to the hike. We like to hike at the level as described for the event and normally stop at intersections to let everyone catch up. We will take frequent rest stop to allow others to catch up, for photo opts, or just to enjoy the scenery.

If you want to turn back at anytime or take a different route, let someone in the group or the Organizer know so we do not wait/look for you.


RESPECT
Please be respectful of everyone participating in an event. Members who are not respectful of the group's members or organizers are not welcome. If unwarranted actions or behavior occurs, please advise the Organizer and the offending individual may be removed and banned from Meetup at the organizer's discretion. This also applies to unsafe actions.


SUGGESTED THINGS TO BRING
Decent shoes for the given outing
Layered clothing
Windbreaker
Extra pair of socks
Handkerchief
Water (quantity appropriate for the given hike)
Hat
Sun block
Bug repellent
Munchies/lunch
Day Pack
Flashlight
Comfortable shoes to leave in the car for after the hike
Ice chest in car for cold drinks after the hike
Other creature comforts that come to mind.


Cost:
No cost, however donations are accepted.


CARPOOLING
No organized carpools, but as you RSVP yes, you can always put in the comment section that you would like to carpool and then contact members individually to work out details; or attach a general message in the area below the description and let others know you are looking to carpool.


CANCELLATIONS
Rain/inclement weather may cancel an event upon discretion of the individual organizer. Please check website before departure.

Also, the hike Organizer may cancel an upcoming scheduled hike if unable to participate due to some unforeseen circumstance; unless arrangements can be made for someone else to facilitate the hike.


DOGS
Dogs may be welcomed if the jurisdiction allows them. Some places do not allow dogs and it will be clear in the description as to dogs or no dogs. All California State Parks ban dogs from their trails.


PHOTOS
Members are able and encouraged to post photos of Meetups, but please edit and pare them down to a few good photos so there are not redundant shots. If you do not want your photo taken, please advise the person with the camera. Also, if you want to post photos, please look at other event photos and do not post the same photos unless they are of much better quality. Also, please edit your photos for your best shots/avoid repetitive photos.
