New Meetup: Veterans Day Hike - Andrew Molera State Park

Announcing a new Meetup for The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group!

What: Veterans Day Hike - Andrew Molera State Park

When: Thursday, November 11,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $1.00 per person

Where: Andrew Molera State Park
Big Sur
Big Sur, CA 93920

Finally, I have some time to hike one of my favorite trails! This hike is located entirely on the west side of Hwy 1 within Andrew Molera State Park in the Big Sur area.

Distance: 8-9 miles
Elevation change: 1000 feet
Time of hike: 4-5 hours
Difficulty Rating: Moderate
Loop trail
Start Time: shortly after 10am

Meet near the restrooms in the parking lot, $10.00 to park, or park on Hwy 1 shoulder and walk in.

We will begin the hike at the parking lot of Andrew Molera Park, cross a creek, and proceed through a meadow towards the ocean and hike along bluffs to a small beach for lunch. After lunch, we will proceed uphill for commanding views of the Big Sur coast and return through a shaded woodland.

It will be necessary to ford the Big Sur River twice as the bridges have been removed. This time of year, the river should be very east to cross with some boulder hopping/wading. The only potential issue would be very heavy rains upstream as was the case last year, but statistically speaking, the river should be fine for early November. I will monitor conditions.

Driving Directions
Andrew Molera Park entrance is located 21 miles and 30 minutes south of the intersection of Hwy 1 and Rio Road. The park entrance is on the west side of Hwy 1, proceed through the entrance to the parking area.

No organized carpool established, however, those needing a ride or offering a ride, please indicate so in RSVP section or other comment section. A great meeting place for carpooling is the Park and Ride located on Rio Road in Carmel, just east of state Hwy 1 near the Safeway parking lot.

Rain cancels, no dogs allowed on State Park trails.

Any questions, please ring me at[masked] or send email
