Announcing a new Meetup for The Monterey Bay Area Hiking Group! What
: Timber Top via Boronda Ridge & DeAngulo Trails (~9 Miles, ~3,600 Feet)When
: Saturday, February 5,[masked]:00 AMWhere
: Boronda Ridge Trail Head
CA Highway 1
Big Sur, CA 93920
There's no better way to explore the Big Sur coast than to hike her ridges and valleys which traverse the landscape between Hwy 1 and the North Coast Ridge Road. Trails here are typically unpredictable and very steep....which virtually guarantees the hearty hiker a both adventurous and strenuous workout. And the views of the Pacific Ocean from high above along the Coast Ridge at approximately 3,500 feet in elevation are simply unmatched anywhere else on the west coast of the United States.
Our route will take from Hwy 1 up a very steep trail as we climb up along the flanks of the Boronda and Lafler ridges before we crest the summit at Timber Top which lies just above the North Coast Ridge Road. After a brief rest stop at Timber we'll continue along the Coast Ridge for 3.5 miles until we reach the upper trail head for the DeAngulo Trail. Hiking the DeAngulo Trail is an eccentric, Big Sur kind of affair--to say the least is unconventional, like its namesake, Jaime DeAngulo, who himself was a very storied and colorful character unique to Big Sur.
This will be a point-to-point hike with a car shuttle to be arranged between our starting and ending points.
