Reconnaissance of other Solar Systems Confirmed

Several hundred people attend this public event. It is sponsored by AMNH, not me. Seating is very limited (maybe 100 seats?) and WE WILL NOT BE SITTING TOGETHER. Most people end up standing during the lecture - to get a seat, you'll need to arrive at AMNH no later than 6:30.

I will not be able to find you in the crowd. It is YOUR responsibility to find me, if you'd like, and introduce yourself. I will be standing toward the front of the auditorium on the right-hand side.

The actual lecture usually starts at around 7:00pm and goes until 8:00pm, then there is Q&A. There is a cash bar at the event.

SciCafe: Reconnaissance of other Solar Systems Confirmed

An advanced telescopic imaging system that started taking data this year is the first of its kind capable of not only spotting planets orbiting other stars, but also analyzing the chemistry of their atmospheres. The collaborative set of high-tech instrumentation and software, called Project 1640, is now operating on the Hale telescope at the Palomar Observatory in California after more than six years of development. Join Curator and Chair of the Astrophysics Department, Ben R. Oppenheimer, as he discusses the first remote reconnaissance of another solar system.

Great NYC Experience! Great! Learned what kind evidence astrophysicists are looking for to conclude that there is possible life on an exoplanet.
