The New York City Skeptics Meetup Group Message Board › Charging a fee for attending the monthly dinner discussion group
|A former member||
I can understand charging a fee for special lectures like the recent one on Einstein but charging a fee to attend a monthly dinner discussion group at a restaurant where everyone pays for his or her own dinner and the restaurant makes a buck (and from what I saw at the dinner I attended, the restaurant could have used the business) is ridiculous. If I join the group as a dues paying member, I would expect a guaranteed seat at the monthly dinner discussion group and not have to be placed on a waiting list or why join? Being on a fixed income, I was not able to afford the high ticket price for the convention held a few months back. It appears that the organization is geared to catering to the affluent skeptic. With all due respect to the organizers, I have no skepticism that paying a fee to have the presence of your company at a dinner for which I am paying for myself, is not worth it.
