New Moon Walk

Details

How is your night vision? Put it to the test on a hike around the West Greenwich woods on a New Moon night! (And wow, is it DARK out there!)

If you came on the Full Moon walk back in November, we'll follow the same route. It will be a 2.5 mile walk through the hayfields and around the pond, listening for hooting owls and spooky things that go bump in the night. Except this time, the moonlight won't be there to guide us...

Things to bring, in addition to warm layers:

  1. Flashlight

  2. A snack, in case you get hungry

  3. Nerves of steel! Once we start into the deep, dark woods, there's no going back! (ok, just kidding about that part)

And if you have a smart phone with a cool, constellation-finding app that you've always wanted to try -- bring that, too. (*No guarantees for a clear night though.)

Trail conditions are hard to predict this far out, but please watch this site for updates. I will check the trail a day or two in advance, and report back. Looking forward to it.

We'll meet at the Plain Road parking lot. Directions as follows: From I-95, take Exit 5B - Route 102 North. Follow Route 102 for 3 miles, past the West Greenwich Town Hall. Turn left onto Plain Meetinghouse Road, follow for 3.5 miles. Pass the Wickaboxet Management Area. Turn right at the next intersection, onto Plain Road. Follow Plain Road for 1/2 mile to the parking lot on the right.
