Hi Group,

A group member, Jim Freeman, kindly volunteered to show us his deck space and plants. He lives in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, which will make it more convenient for some of you and less for others, but that’s the way we roll.

Jim’s deck apparently has a certain amount of space and a lot of plants. So if a vast number of you turn up, and I sincerely hope you will, he will take us up to his deck in shifts. He can fit about seven in each batch. At our first meeting, two weeks ago, one trip would have accommodated the whole group. But this time, perhaps more members will be able to make it. The more, the better. Variety is great and everyone brings a different amount of knowledge (me, hardly any, Emily, a whole lot).

We are first, as usual, going to gather at a bar/restaurant in the locale. Before we lose light, Jim will escort you to his space. Either I or my wife Kathy will stay at Bar Tabac to keep group members from feeling lonely while waiting their turn to visit the deck. I encourage you to buy a drink, appetizer or at a bare minimum a cup of coffee in the restaurant—it makes us feel less guilty about holding table space. Note down my cell number now -- 917 747 7821. Call me that night if you need to.

Our topic this time: Perennials in containers. This should be a helpful area of discussion. One year Kathy and I lost a nice bamboo plant, and yet we have had good luck with others. Some perennials look kind of ugly once they’ve gone to seed, and you end up looking at their brown hulks for the rest of the summer (my take on the matter). But you do get the cool feeling of watching new shoots come in next spring (my wife’s take). So bring your perennial wisdom.

Time: Monday Aug. 3, 6:30 pm -9 pm
Place: Bar Tabac
128 Smith St
Brooklyn, NY 11201-6258

PS.--Does everyone in the group know about

The great thing about this free site is that it allows you to input your own journey coordinates and your public transport preferences in several helpful ways; e.g. more walking or less walking, buses or trains or both, or taxis. So you can figure out any trip your way that fits your schedule and wallet. You can then print out your maps.

Hi, Peter, how are you today? I was just wondering. By any chance, would it be possible to change the date to Wed, Aug 5th or Fri, Aug 7th? I hate to be presumptuous or over-assertive, but I would really hate to miss this meetup. By the way, thanks so much for organizing this group - I think it's terrific!

Hello again, Peter -

I hope I'm not driving you crazy.

I had written earlier, requesting a possible change of date to Wed, Aug 5th, or Fri, Aug 7th.

But, in fact, Wed Aug 5th is UNIVERSAL PEACE DAY, and that is something I feel I must absolutely participate in.

Friday, Aug 7th still works for me, but I also don't want to cause you and the other members any unnecessary headaches.
