First New York Vim Meetup

  • Apr 9, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

For our first official vim meetup, we're hanging out with people, pizza and beer. At 7:30PM, two speakers will give a joint talk/discussion on vim configs, then we'll break for pairing.

My two cents: The meetup's welcome message states that the meetup "is a place
where beginners can learn the art of vim and where experts can sharpen their
skills...". Sure enough, the vimmers' bios seem to indicate a mix of those at
the beginner and expert ends of the spectrum. Now, when such a mix meet up, it
is typical that the beginners who are, understandably, not super confident about
their vim skills will come with a more passive or timid attitude; whereas the
experts (who may even know each other previously or work together) are outspoken
and assertive. Given this arrangement, it is only natural that the experts will
dominate the environment, and the meetup winds up having a "Vim Experts" flavor.
It might be worth partitioning these two objectives into two meetup groups, or
maybe particular meetups should be labeled as targeting beginners, experts or both.
