Please tell us why you like Chicago history

After several failed attempts, I still have been unable to build a time machine that would let me visit the distant past without sacrificing irreplaceable possessions such as a 1960s Hohner guitar, a Uniball 1.0 mm Gel Impact pen, a license for Microsoft Access, my LL Bean Gore Tex mountain treads, and a circa 2005 Walgreens cellphone that doesn't work in any era. So now I've settled for staring at old buildings and imagining their histories, and in my mind I often simulate a few rounds of drinking at one of the hundreds of residential buildings that look like they used to be corner bars.

I moved to Chicago in the late '90s due to the shortage of jazz clubs in rural New Hampshire. A few years later I moved into a Polish neighborhood years before consciously realizing I was half Polish myself.
