March 2014 WordPress Meet-Up

A Journey in Marketing

A Journey in Marketing will be about how Ryan discovered a problem, found a solution to his problem, and marketed the solution. More specifically, he will talk about how he market's his Wordpress plugin. He'll talk about how to target people with a specific need or problem through various online networks such as Google search, Adwords, YouTube and Twitter. He'll share strategies, tips and techniques he used to bring awareness to his Wordpress plugin. While Ryan is going to talk about marketing his WordPress plugin, his approaches and tactics can also be applied to most other products.

Presented by Ryan Parent of Vidrack. After taking economics at Carleton University Ryan realized that he wanted to start his own business. He had an interest in photography and decided to start a wedding photography company here in Ottawa. Soon after he discovered that he enjoyed marketing his photography just as much as actually being a photographer. Over the next few years Ryan learned all kinds of ways to market online and after speaking at a marketing meet up he was offered contract work with Marketing What's New a local marketing agency. After discovering a problem gathering user generated videos he decided to create a Wordpress plugin that could help him easily gather user generated videos. He is now working on his first tech startup, vidrack, completely built on Wordpress.

Meeting Details:

We have a private space downstairs. Enter the main doors, turn left, and down the stairs.

We're working on a new downtown location for the regular monthly meetings of the meetup since we've outgrown the libraries.  As we have not settled on a new location yet, this meeting will at the James Street Pub.  We have a private space in the basement to keep the meeting separate from the regular bar patrons.

No donations for this meeting!  (We normally ask for a $4 donation to help cover the cost of the room and our Meetup fees, which total about $450/year)

Sorry everyone that I could not make it due to illness. I left a message but apparently, I should have posted directly on the sight. I look forward to the next meeting. By that time, I should be back to normal and not contagious.

Likewise wondering if this will be recorded or if there'll be any other opportunity to hear from Ryan on this matter in Ottawa? 6:00 is unfortunately too early for me cunning in from Aylmer on public transit. Not going to be making it in time, sadly. :(

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
