1st Anniversary PM Hike and Festival

(Please read, as the description contains important 'actions required' details.) Not only will this be a hike, but it will also be a Festival, complete with door prizes (mandatory) and singing and dancing (optional, but highly encouraged). Let's also do a talent show! Either leave a comment or send me a private message if you wish to demonstrate your amazing talent!

If the food you bring requires refrigeration, please leave it in a cooler in your car so no one gets food poisoning! (It has happened with other hiking meetups.) The parking area is close to our eating area, so you do NOT have to carry any food with you on the hike.

Since there was a lot of positive feedback after we did a hike on Feb 9 at Charmlee in Malibu (pictures below), I have decided to hold this 1st anniversary event at the same location. After first doing a nice hike in the park, we can gather at the shaded picnic area where we will do a potluck as well as the additional celebratory delirium. Please leave a comment telling us what you will bring to share with others!

Important Note: The Park is charging me a fee for this event. Hence, I am asking each attendee to 'donate' (please) $3.

Even More Important Note: If we were having alcohol the Park would REQUIRE me to hire a bouncer. (Not kidding, though they refer to him as a security guard or something, but we know what they mean.) Thus, I am asking you not to bring alcohol.

Hike Difficulty: 3 miles, 500' elevation gain. Easy for all members.

Highlights: Ocean views, fun and food.

No dogs, please.

Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes (I have to say it, unlikely as it is) and obnoxious behavior by your fellow hikers.

Parking: There is a $4 fee to park, and spaces are limited. So it is REALLY important to carpool! Communicate via the comments section below. There IS overflow parking along the entrance drive (I think that would be free), but the Park people told me everyone MUST park on the same side of the road to allow room for possible emergency vehicles (apparently they heard of our reputation). So if you park there, please park on the RIGHT HAND SIDE AS YOU ENTER. You can also park along Encinal Cyn Road for free, but a half mile away)

Driving Directions: The easiest, if it works for you, is just to get on Encinal Canyon Road from PCH and take it inland until you reach the Charmlee Park entrance on your left. But for those coming from the 101, do this: Take the Kanan Road exit south toward the ocean. When you hit the intersection with Mulholland, turn right onto Mulholland. Not too much later you will come to an intersection where Mulholland continues to the right and the 23 to the left where it's called DECKER Canyon Road. You want to go LEFT. Stay on that until you get to an intersection with Encincal where you will turn LEFT, and you will be on Encinal. Take that until you arrive at the entrance to Charmlee on your right. Trace that route on an internet mapping site in advance, but those directions will work for you, as long as you notice the intersections where you have to turn.
