This hike is as cool as it is accessible (which is to say: very) from the 101 in Newbury Park. From the (free) street parking we'll get on the hidden, but quite nearby Rosewood Trailhead. We'll follow this trail for 1.3 miles with a steady climb the entire way until we reach a multi-way trail junction. There is a trail marker there and we'll take the trail up and to the RIGHT, which will continue for perhaps another 200 yards until we reach Angel Vista, which has a bench and even picnic tables!

The views include the 101 corridor, the Santa Monica mountains, including Boney Mountain, the Simi Hills, and if the marine layer holds off we will easily be able to see the Channel Islands. (See my pics below.)

If there is sufficient interest, we can hang out until the 8:06 sunset (which should be awesome, btw) before we return by the same route.

We'll do a 2nd route from a different trailhead to Angel Vista in the near future.

BRING A FLASHLIGHT OR HEADLAMP for the return trip, just in case we do stay for the sunset.

Distance: 3 miles
Elevation Gain: 750'
Difficulty: Beginners, but strong (due to the long, steady climb)
Dogs: Yes
Restrooms: No
Water Fountain: No
Parking: Free on the street
Trail: Wide single track , excellent condition
Sunset: 8:06 pm

Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes, slip-'n-fall.

Directions: From the 101 take the Ventu Park exit and go South toward the ocean. At Lynn Road turn right. VERY soon you will pass an open space on your left. Watch for the entrance to Regal Oak Ct on your left, where you will turn...um...left. Take it all the way to the end and park. This is a neighborhood, so let's try to be somewhat restrained. We will meet not quite at the end of the road, where we will cross a fence to the trail and find the trailhead which is somewhat hidden, but certainly there.
