Hump Day Hike on Rocky Peak

This is one of my favorite hikes in Simi Valley because of the beautiful sandstone rock formations, fabulous views of both Simi and the SV Valleys, and great sunsets. The sun will set during our ascent, and if we are lucky, we will be at a good spot to pause and watch it on our way up.

If you have not hiked here before the first mile or so is VERY steep as is the last half mile, which is why I do not recommend this hike for beginners. The middle mile is up and down, but not hard.

It will take us about one hour to reach the top, and it will be dark by then. So make sure you bring a flashlight! The night views are just gorgeous from the top with the city lights spread out below you.

Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes (VERY doubtful), slip-'n-fall on loose stones left by bonehead movie producers on lower sections.

Directions and Parking: Get off the 118 at the Rocky Peak Road exit. There is ample free parking on both the N (few spaces) and S (many spaces) sides of this short road that goes directly over the 118, but watch carefully for signs indicating where you may and may not park! If you are careless, you'll get a ticket.
