2nd Potluck Hike from Corral Cyn to Mesa Peak

RESCHEDULED FOR JAN 24TH DUE TO RAIN:

We did this hike on August 2nd, but turnout was (inexplicably) low and it's A GREAT HIKE, so I want to try it again in my continuing quest to bring all members to hiking nirvana. We'll hike from Corral Canyon in Malibu eastward to a picnic table on Mesa Peak with ocean views for the entire hike. We hiked to the same destination from Las Virgenes last year and had a potluck at the same picnic table where people broke into spontaneous applause at the beauty of the views.

There are marvelous views on this hike from beginning to end, including Point Dume, the Channel Islands, Saddle Peak, and Calabasas Peak. There are also caves where Jim Morrison of the Doors used to hang out next to a spiral maze, a small oak forest, and more!

Please bring food/drink to share at the picnic table, and remember to pack out your garbage when done.

My policy is to wait 10 mins or LESS for stragglers, so please leave plenty of time to get there.

Dogs: Please no
Restrooms: The great outdoors
Water: Bring adequate water
Parking: Free in small, gravel lot (see directions)
Trail: Fire road, excellent condition
Sunset: 5:03 pm

Known Dangers: Rattlesnakes (very doubtful), slip-'n-fall.

Directions: From PCH get on Corral Canyon (between Kanan and Malibu Cyn Roads). Corral is twisty-turny and you'll be on it for a while all the way to the top, where you'll find a free gravel parking lot. Be sure to check out the map in advance, NEVER trust your GPS. Notice that the link above is not the exact parking location. The parking location is where the Backbone trail meets the Castro Peak Motorway to the left of the link.
