(Hiking and) Dancing with the Stars

On this hike we'll DANCE to foot-tapping, custom tunes with PMH DJ "Dr. Detroit" and his Bluetooth Boombox. Food/drink to share with others are optional, but highly encouraged. (However, do NOT drink and drive!!!!!!! Designated dance/drivers are required!!)

We last did this beautiful hike (without dancing) on October 29th. It runs along a well-maintained trail that begins just across the street from the beginning tip of Lang Ranch Park. It starts with 5 short switchbacks among oak trees as we begin to climb, then straightens out for about another mile with continuous elevation gain until we reach a junction. From there we'll go UP a short but steep distance to the top of the hill to check out the night view, then retrace our way back down to the junction where we'll take the other direction along a single track trail for another half mile until we reach a clearing by an outcropping of sandstone rocks looking downward toward the Albertson Motorway fire road.

Dr. Detroit and his lovely assistant, Debra, will set up their dance studio hardware and begin the festivities from here.

Make sure you bring a headlamp or flashlight, as it will be dark for the entire hike. Strobe lights and rotating disco balls are optional.

Distance: 3.1 miles out and back
Elevation Gain: 850'
Difficulty: Strong beginners should be ok.
Dogs: Leave 'em home, we're rocking out on this hike!

Known Dangers: Sprained ankles from hiking in boots with 4" heels, unwanted advances by dorky hikers infected by disco fever, slip and fall on some slippery, loose rocks, rattlesnakes (doubtful) if it happens to be a warm evening.

Directions: Do NOT make the mistake (as some have in the past) of driving all the way to the end of Lang Ranch Parkway to a different trailhead. This trailhead is at the very BEGINNING of the park. Look at the location link above. From Westlake Blvd turn East into Lang Ranch Parkway and follow it a half mile (?) or so until you see a park on your left. The trailhead is right THERE, but on your right. Lookie here:
