Why: To cover $144 meetup.com yearly fee, passes & costs to discover new trails.
Meet other local hiking enthusiasts. This group is NOT for hardcore hikers who like to do 20 mile hikes at 7,000 feet, and carry 25 pounds with them on their back!
This group is for the rest of us, who enjoy hiking at a beginner/intermediate level to enjoy the scenery and get some good exercise in.
The Desert is full of great hiking trails and nature walks/trails - let's get out there and explore them and see some great vistas and sights of our beautiful community!
Group is for ALL LEVELS, but most hikes will be beginner/intermediate casual hikes.
POLICIES:
* Member who likes to join this meetup MUST HAVE a CLEAR PICTURE in her or his profile otherwise she or he will not be approved. This is for safety reasons to identify you in case you get lost or emergency.
* Member must have a real name , not an alias or initial.
* MEMBERSHIP FEE is $5 yearly and family members or guests are free. The membership is due when you join in.
We use the fund to discover new trails, to pay entrance fees, and meetup hosting fee ($114 yearly). If we have extra money, we will use it for annual BBQ party.

The Mecca Hills are located about 40 miles southeast of Palm Springs. They were formed by the convergence of the North American Plate and the Pacific Plate along the San Andreas Fault. Layers of eroded rock, some over 600 million years old, have been pushed up and overturned by the activity of the San Andreas Fault system. Read more
