Book of the Month: Brag!

Upon another great recommendation from one of your fellow book-clubbers, Jennifer, we'll be taking on Peggy Klaus' breakout work, Brag!, and learning "how to toot our own horn without blowing it." Here's a bit of the Amazon review:

"Brag! is a whip smart tool kit--one that tampers with our beliefs about humility by defining bragging as an act of authenticity. Peggy Klaus, a Fortune 500 communication coach, sharpened her strategies..."  >read more

Here are some questions to help lead (let me know if you have any suggestions for this):

  • What was your greatest take-away from the book?
  • What actionable items have you given yourself as a result?
  • Is there anything that you disagreed with?
  • What books have you read that were similar?
  • Any additional Thoughts?

Discussion notes will be added to the webpage after the meeting. Please feel free to join the online discussion here.

A great discussion in a location I wouldn't normally travel to. Great meeting all of you tonight.

I have to meet with a new client and attend a networking event. I am sorry for the short notice. I was greatly looking forward to going to tonight's event. Alas, there's next month.

Would love to talk about the contents of this book with seemingly very intentional people. With me, there are 11 attending. I know "Java" well...fat chance we'll find space for11 unless we bundle up & meet@outside tables. it'll facilitate talk better

Thanks for the tip, Steve. We'll do out best, play it by ear, and see what 11 equates to on Wednesday. I'll go early to scope out the situation.

Thanks for the recommendation Angie and Emeline! Let's do the one on Judah for accessibility reasons. It looks like it's about a 40 minute trip on the N from downtown, so that's how I'll be traveling if anyone wants to transitpool (is that a term?). I know this may be a little far for some of you, but adventures are fun right? Make the trip and you can help choose the location of the next one.

Hi Java Beach Café does have lots of space but is loud; yet at 7 pm on wed this might not be an issue; I like the idea :)) which Java Beach Café: there are two: one on Sloat Blvd and the original at Judah and Great Highway

I recommend the Sunset as the location. We can meet near the beach, or if we need an enclosed space, Java Beach cafe has a lot of space :)

I'm really excited for this book. It truly is an art, and is totally necessary, to be able to "toot your own horn" in an effective and tactful manner.

So, we've now had a meeting in the Marina and will have had one in SoMa ... shall we venture to the Mission next? Open for recommendations (first come, first served)...

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
