Dear Tammy

As we get close to the end of the school year, we begin preparations for showcasing the work that the students have accomplished this year.  Private voice students will have a recital on April 27 and Adult Scene Study students will showcase scene work on May 20.  Teens and Tweens will have their best work on a DVD for Industry.  I am super proud of all of the students.  As I always say, you'll get out of it what you put in to it.  These students put a great deal of hard work into their craft this year.

*Prepare yourself for any commercial audition situation!
*Starts Sunday!

In this market, Commercials are the bread and butter  of the industry.  An actor here must be well versed in commercials.

COMMERCIAL ACTING gives the actor the tools and on-camera experience to successfully navigate any commercial audition. The course will cover the commercial business, components of the audition, creating reality on camera, one-word and multiple character scripts, improvs, using props and food and more.  Actors will break down scripts and will work on-camera at every class. Plus, actors will review footage at every class to see what worked and what didn't.

Footage of the class work will be provided to the student at the conclusion of the course.

Shakespeare Boot Camp
*Back by Popular Demand!

Katherine Stewart

"Shakespeare Boot Camp" is a four week intensive taught by Desert Rose Theatre's artistic director, Katherine Stewart. It is during these weeks that the actors will gain an understanding of what is expected in Shakespearean performance. Actors will be introduced to the fundamentals of Shakespeare's language, how to mine the text for acting clues and how to scan the rhythm of poetic verse.
During the class, students will learn the proper actor's homework as it applies to classical theatre (and Shakespeare specifically) and how to effectively study, memorize and rehearse the dialogue. Actors will experience hands-on study in class which will steer them to make effective choices that "suit the action to the word, the word to the action." Emphasis will be placed on proper scansion and pronunciation of the text and powerful character choices.
Students will learn what a casting director of Shakespeare wishes to see, which characters are appropriate for their type and what the difference is between modern and classical style of performance. All actors will be given nurturing, constructive critiques of their work and will receive a written evaluation of their progress at the end of the class series.

DATE: Tuesdays, May 7-28, 2013
TIME: 6:30-9:30 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Katherine Stewart
PRICE: $250
