The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos by Brian Greene

I will have a one-week-old newborn at this time so I will leave this one up to the guest-leader, Sterling DeRamus! Thanks, Sterling!

The bestselling author of The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos tackles perhaps the most mind-bending question in modern physics and cosmology: Is our universe the only universe?

There was a time when "universe" meant all there is. Everything. Yet, a number of theories are converging on the possibility that our universe may be but one among many parallel universes populating a vast multiverse. Here, Briane Greene, one of our foremost physicists and science writers, takes us on a breathtaking journey to a multiverse comprising an endless series of big bangs, a multiverse with duplicates of every one of us, a multiverse populated by vast sheets of spacetime, a multiverse in which all we consider real are holographic illusions, and even a multiverse made purely of math--and reveals the reality hidden within each.

Using his trademark wit and precision, Greene presents a thrilling survey of cutting-edge physics and confronts the inevitable question: How can fundamental science progress if great swaths of reality lie beyond our reach? The Hidden Reality is a remarkable adventure through a world more vast and strange than anything we could have imagined.

Great time had by all, well done Sterling and now to contact Megan about the rest of the year; 3 books, October, November, and December. She already has our list from June but let's see if she remembers after the life-changing event of another child. :)

It would be a huge pity if Sterling can't make it but we've already delayed a fortnight and I finished the book so I suggest we just hold it tonight and hope Sterling can make it. We met him last month and he seems nice so I look forward to it if he can make it.

Megan, given how far we have to push this one back and that the rest of the year is still unset I suggest we give September a miss (I'd be Labor Day anyway) and have our subsequent meeting in October. What does everyone else think?

I will try to make it but I too will be having a difficult day tomorrow so I'll be playing it by ear.

Congratulations! We really appreciated Megan coming out when she was being very motherly but take car of yourself and your soon-to-be and we'll see you when you're ready.

Last minute conflict. I was really looking forward to the discussion, too.

Fortunately I now own this book, having bought it and had it signed at Dr. Greene's lecture in McLean a couple weeks back--before I saw this announcement.
