Dr. Gibbons is a labour historian of the period 1912-1922 and will talk about the demise of Irish labour in the face of nationalist resurgence. He will make references to the Dublin Lockout of 1913, James Connolly, and how the Irish Free State used its new army to break a postal workers strike after 'independence' and that the material conditions of the Irish working class worsened somewhat after 1921.
