Under capitalism food is produced for a profit, but in Socialism food will be produced in order to feed people. This talk will look at some of the implications of this crucial point for how farming could be practised in a society based on production for use. For instance, will there be smaller herds? Will there be less use of pesticides as there will be more people to do the weeding? Will mixed farming be more common? Answers to such questions must be largely speculative for now, but we can be sure that it will be possible to feed the world's population while caring for the soil and treating animals more humanely.
