What if you, right now, made some sandwiches, filled up a thermos with coffee, went into your TV room, drew the blinds, closed the door, and then watched every single Kubrick film, one after the other?

Might it happen that, 25 hours later, when the last waltz is playing in Eyes Wide Shut, your concerned friends, at last breaking in, rather than finding you lying there unconscious, would instead be confronted with a luminous floating sphere, with an embryonic being faintly resembling you inside, but possessed of a new, superhuman perspective?

Who knows? There is no record of anyone ever having tried this before!

Today, July 26th, is Stanley Kubrick's 86th birthday. In tribute, all participating SKM members will watch as many Kubrick films as they can in the days immediately leading up to the event, at one the following pledge levels:

The Heywood Floyd: From Dr. Strangelove through Eyes Wide Shut: seven films, 17 hours.

The Hal 9000: All of the above, PLUS the four films from "The Killing" through "Lolita": 11 films, 25 hours

The Starchild: ALL of the above, PLUS the early shorts, "Fear and Desire", "Killer's Kiss", Jan Harlan's "Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures", Jon Ronson's "Stanley Kubrick's Boxes", "Room 237", and both Vivian Kubrick's and the Elstree Studio's documentary on The Shining. Somewhat north of 36 hours. Some of this stuff you may have to watch streaming.

OR — "design-your-own" a la carte option!

The Moonchild: Watch any Kubrick film, either your favorite, or one that you have never seen, twice in a row.

Midnight, The Stars, and You: Watch "The Shining" twelve times.

OR —

Just come to the Meetup anyway, discuss whatever movie you want, and join us in toasting our favorite director on his Birthday!

Everyone should pick their favorite short Kubrick quote to use when toasting.
