Yes, wow, and my transition was in 1984, '85 and
beyond... I became ill eating the SAD diet.. Drs.
advice didn't work for me.. and they gave up on me..
Out of desperation I went to my Health Food
Store....and started asking questions. They would not
(could not) give me any direct answers. Instead they
pointed me to the section of the store with many
books...... I leafed thru some...and purchased an
armload of them. That was the start of veganism for
me.. it was very difficult...and full of many mistakes
along the way.. but all these years later... I'm
well.. and have a clear grasp of how to care for
myself.. That's huge - its huge for anyone.. I'm glad
to no longer feel alone.. it was a lonely journey for
many years....full of ridicule by those who didn't

Everyone new to this lifestyle now is blessed with lots
of rich available information. .... it was much harder
to come by in years past..

Even that transition at that time took some planning
and independence!

I remember in the 60's asking at my local independent
supermarket that I
understood that it was hard to get organically grown
produce, but if they
could just try to get some leaf lettuce and apples
grown this way I would
surely appreciate it.

The response: Why was I so paranoid!

My response: piling my kids in my beat up old car to
drive to south cook
county every week where there was a very nice small
store that sold organic
produce -- (this was before the federal standard so the
owner basically
checked out everything himself)

I can't say I was 100% and I did eat some meat and eggs
in those years, but
even the little I did took some doing!

Sorry Joan for the confusion: I went from the standard
american diet (SAD) to vegan 25 years ago.. not raw 25
years ago. Raw becomes a natural progression.. and a
very positive one. Just wanted to correct that.
