Christopher Frey of Hazlitt magazine explains print and digital symbiosis

Innovative digital storytelling and content-driven mobile apps are not the exclusive terrain of sneaker-obsessed startups. Dead-tree specialist Random House Canada recently launched Hazlitt magazine as part of a plan to create a “space where print and digital not only live together, but sustain each other.”

Join Hazlitt magazine’s Editor-in-chief, Christopher Frey, as he shares insight and lessons about making great content, why any topic can be interesting, and how to create unboring articles.

Mr. Frey was a likable and knowledgeable presenter, and he made some very interesting points about the similarities and differences of producing a digital magazine versus a print one.

Thought that Christopher truly shared his experience with us. He also has a charming way with words.

Excellent. I really enjoyed the perspective of someone who has really 'been there'!!!!

Christopher was insightful and honest about creating content that is writer-driven but also addresses business objectives. Many excellent questions!

The Wilson 96 assures me that 35 people can comfortably fill the back room. Will all of you be sitting? No, the answer is no, not all of you will be able to sit.

    Best,
    Ryan

I am old, infirm and from the suburbs. I DEMAND a seat Ryan.

Bring one of those portable camping chairs with the beer holders built into the arm rests.

Ryan, there seems to be no benefit to having put myself on the wait list -- it says 1 spot left, but the wait list won't let me add myself to "attending".

Will try and fix later today.

Yes, it's far from ideal. It tried to charge me $10, but I restarted the app and it worked. See you soon!

Some of you will be standing on Feb 21. Standing room only. Should have booked the ACC.

Hello everyone. I'll send an email early next week, but it looks like we'll be able to move the Meetup to Wilson96. The advantages include a large back room to ourselves, a bit more space, $5 drink specials and the bartender is willing to kill the music during the guest talk. Just waiting to confirm with the owner.

Once I confirm I can increase the guestlist to 25 people.

Wilson96 is a five minute walk west of No One Writes, so while it's not near a major intersection, it's still quite easy to get to. If the location works out we can have our meetups there from now on.

Erm..."this, Ryan". I blame the snow shovelling.

Hi, Ryan. Please put me on the waiting list if you find a larger venue. Thanks.

Will do. I'll add the waiting list function to this meetup (I forgot to do that).

We're at 19 people and it's only January 22! I'm going to investigate other venues and see if I can find a larger space. If so, I'll increase the Meetup size accordingly. Thanks to everyone for a great start to 2013!
