Zeitgeist Toronto

Surviving Disasters Seminar
Emergency Preparedness
No matter where you live there is always the risk that you may have to deal with a natural or man-made disaster.

In addition, we are also increasingly being threatened with financial collapse, social unrest, war and terrorism.

Currently government emergency and health services are barely coping with demand. If even a moderate disaster were to occur in your area you will have to fend for yourself.

The good news is that with a little planning and a small investment in supplies and equipment, you can dramatically improve your chances or staying safe and healthy in any emergency.

Based on the book The Art of Urban Survival, This seminar is ideal for community groups and teaches life saving preparedness skills that can be applied to dozens of natural and man made disasters.

Participants will learn:
  • How to make a disaster plan
  • What to do during an emergency
  • How to assemble a home, car and pocket survival and first aid kits.
  • The essential items you need to keep in your home
  • How to survive war, terrorism, riots, and natural disasters
  • How to organize and conduct a search & rescue team to find lost family members

Stefan Verstappen has a long list of survival and emergency skills. A graduate of a three year Outward Bound program he was soloing by age fifteen, traveled through Europe alone the next year, and was teaching wilderness survival for the Toronto's Boys Home in Algonquin Park by age eighteen.

He later worked as head instructor for St John Ambulance in Brampton, Ontario and won two civic awards for his participation in mock disaster drills. He was also the first aid and CPR instructor at the OPP Police college.

Stefan is one of the first westerners to study martial arts in China with several renowned Kung Fu teachers, from hill tribe Shamans of the Golden Triangle, to back alley street fighters in the concrete canyons of Hong Kong.  His adventures have been featured on Taiwan TV, on radio interviews, and several newspaper and magazine articles.

Stefan is an author and published his first book, The Thirty-Six Strategies of Ancient China, China Books & Periodicals, SF, in 1999.

He has written numerous articles for various publications.

I wasn't able to come to this event due to another commitment. I'd love to go to this if another one is organized. If this group cannot organize another event, I'd be happy to arrange one. :-)

Hi Joy! Too bad you couldn't make it the other day, it was a great event. As we had such a large interest in the subject we are going to work on having another similar event with Stefan (the author), if you'd like to get involved message me offline.
