Here's what we've been up to. So many exciting updates!

Programs Funded

We are so grateful to have received 3-years of funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and a grant from the City of Barrie Culture Department for our Unity Studios music recording program, led by Shane L.S. Dennis. We also received funding from Simcoe County's SARR fund to help our gardening and food education projects.

Market Cafe Growing

Unity continues to be a hub in our community for delicious local food, art, music and enlightening conversation. Thank you to all our wonderful regulars and supporters! Vic, Shane, Mellon and Sheekie have been creating new dishes and baked goods and expanding the menu. Some amazing new art has just been hung on the walls so come on in for some good food and inspiration! Our workshop schedule will be out soon. Give us a call to book your next meeting or gathering,[masked], or connect with us on our Unity Market Facebook Page.

Green Living Show

Thank you for all the wonderful conversations and connections! It was so worthwhile being at the show and we received a great response to the Global Unity Project. A video update can be viewed HERE. If you are in support of the plan, please share it far and wide, help assemble a group in your community and invest here if you are able to help kick start the campaign with a $10, $25 or $50 per month investment. Momentum is building with new partnerships developing daily. We can make this happen!

Ecofest Barrie 2013 will be held this September 28-29 at Heritage Park on Barrie's Waterfront. The theme of the festival is Solutions with a special focus and celebration on Local Food during harvest time. We are welcoming all restaurants to participate in our food pavilion where they will each be serving up a local dish. In the solutions pavilion, we will be showcasing some of the latest technology in regards to renewable energy, transportation, housing, and food production. For more information, visit EcofestBarrie.ca or email [address removed].

An Evening with Mike Nickerson Join us Monday April 29th at 7 pm at Unity for a discussion on sustainability with author Mike Nickerson. We will also discuss Mike's collaboration with the Global Unity Project. To learn more about Mike click HERE.

Bike Shop

We are excited to announce a new collaboration with Firebird Community Cycle to offer up-cycling and repair of used bicycles in our Shipping Container Model Home, across the street from Unity Market. We are accepting bicycle donations and offering low-cost bicycle repair and bike sales. For more information, please contact Grant Wilson of Firebird at[masked]-7242.

Gardens!

We are in full garden-building mode! Let us know if you have a sunny front or backyard that we can convert to a garden. You can email [address removed] or call Andrew at[masked]-4006. We are in the process of scheduling food and music workshops at Unity Market. We will be introducing Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution cooking classes, gardening workshops and introduction to music recording. We will send out our workshop schedule soon.
