Hello permies,

I wanted to make sure that everyone in this group knows that Mark Lakeman, founder of Portland's City Repair and Planet Repair Institute (, will be in Vancouver on Tuesday, October 15th to give a workshop on placemaking and social capital as part of the Living the New Economy confluence of events (October 15-20) - see to learn about the other 23 events taking place over 6 days at Performance Works Theatre on Granville Island, Vancouver.

(Mark will also be keynoting alongside film director Ian MacKenzie at the Living the New Economy opening night - Oct 15 @ 7pm - so you will want to catch him there as well).

If you already know who Mark Lakeman is (and I suspect that most people on this list do), I know what you are thinking right now: "Wow, Mark Lakeman will be in Vancouver! Sign me up - how can I register?"

The answer: you can buy tickets for only $35 on the Living the New Economy website here: But hurry, because spaces are limited and going quickly! It's not every day that Mark Lakeman makes it up to Vancouver to give a workshop like this!

The Facebook page for this event is here:

If you don't already know who Mark Lakeman is, let me put it this way: Have you ever been to Portland, Oregon and wondered "Wow, why is this place so darn cool?"

The answer, in large part, is Mark Lakeman. Mark has pioneered the concept of placemaking - transforming non-descript urban and suburban spaces into places of beauty, pride and connection for the community - and for the past 16 years has inspired hundreds of awesome community building projects across Portland, and beyond.

Mark is a master of social permaculture with beautiful physical manifestations. If you are into any of this stuff, you NEED to attend this workshop on Tuesday, October 15th from 2:30pm-5pm!

HOT TIP: Come on down to Village Vancouver's fourth massive zero-waste Neighbour Savour potluck tomorrow (Oct 8) at Heritage Hall from 6-9pm for a chance to win free tickets to Mark's workshop! More info about Neighbour Savour here:
