Lollipop along the Talepop Loop- a Gentler Hike

Lollipop along the Talepop Loop- a Gentler Hike

Details

http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/1/3/2/event_260784882.jpegThis is a brand new to the Blazers route! Walk in the history's footsteps through northern Malibu Creek State Park, following paths carved by the Chumash Indians and Spanish settlers.

Our journey back in time begins along the Grasslands Trail, passing the Sepulveda Adobe, built in 1863 by Pedro Sepulveda, and continuously occupied until 1980. Leaving the adobe,

we'll move through territory that provided notorious outlaw Tiburcio Vasquez, for whom Vasquez Rocks is named, haven.

Turning left on the Talepop Trail will carry us up above Las Virgenes Canyon to the east and Liberty Canyon to the west. Talepop is the name of a Chumash Indian village on the southern edge of their territory, which stretched all the way to San Luis Obispo. Las Virgenes Canyon Rd was once a Chumash trail used to facilitate trade with villages along the ocean.

This is a lollipop hike -out, around, and back- that covers 5.3 miles and climbs 600.'

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/6/2/7/c/event_260785212.jpegPace: This is a gentler hike. We will go at a more moderate pace than a regular Trailblazer hike, and we'll take more breaks. The purpose is to give novice and intermediate hikers who may feel they're not up to a regular hike a chance to get out and experience our beautiful trails. Faster hikers are welcome to come along, with the understanding that the hike is geared toward those who want to go at an easier pace.

Directions:

From the 101, exit at Las Virgenes and head south (toward the ocean). Turn right at Mulholland, and park along the side of the road about 150 yards up the street. There is a dirt pullout directly at the corner of Las Virgenes and Mulholland, but we'll be meeting further up the road.

From PCH, turn inland on Malibu Canyon Rd (which becomes Las Virgenes) and turn left on Mulholland. Park along the side of the road about 150 yards up the street. There is a dirt pullout directly at the corner of Las Virgenes and Mulholland, but we'll be meeting further up the road.
