Welcome Trailblazers!, with the high temps forecasted this week I thought heading up to Pig Rock would be a good one!
This hike will take us 5 1/2 +/- miles roundtrip on and around the scenic Calabasas Peak Trail with an elevation gain of 1200 ft. Our route goes from Stunt Ranch State Park to Calabasas Peak, which rises above Red Rock Canyon, Old Topanga Canyon, and the bowl-shaped Cold Creek Canyon. From Calabasas Peak, there are striking views north into Ventura County, southwest to the Pacific Ocean, and northeast to the San Fernando and Simi Valleys. The route also passes a variety of interesting geological formations, including large weathered sandstone outcroppings and colorful rock slabs. One of these areas has been named Pig rock, and is a great place to take a quick snack break, before making our way back to Stunt road.

The fire road to to Calabasas Peak is fairly short , so I plan on continuing past the peak out towards pig rock, and beyond till we get to a 4 +/- mile distance, then come back to break and enjoy the views at PR. You'll need to save a little energy to hit Calabasas peak on the way back. This should create an enjoyable afternoon hike as we see spectacular tilted and pocketed sandstone formations set against the mountains during most of this trek, I hope you can come out and enjoy this unique gem in the area.
