6 Year Anniversary Celebration! - a Gentler Hike and More Raucous Pizza Party

Come out to celebrate 6 years of Blazing with one of our more challenging Gentler hikes, then pat yourself on the back with a slice or two of pizza at the Titular Mansion after!

We're scheduling a Gentler hike so as many people as possible can participate. We'd love for the evening and weekenders to blow off work for the day to join us, too.

The hiking portion of the festivities starts at the Rocky Peak trailhead, atop the Santa Susana Pass.

We'll get some calorie-burning work from the start, lifting ourselves along rough-hewn fireroad until we find a thin rivulet of a trail that seeps down the hillside and through an animal tunnel under the 118 Freeway. We'll make a quick sweep around Corriganville, the historic movie and amusement park lot, then jump the railroad tracks and slip through the hillside woods back to our cars.

I haven't managed to lock in the stats for this hike yet, but somewhere around 5.5 miles and 1000' of elevation gain sounds close. Maybe 1200' - why count? If you favor hiking poles, bring them on this one. Some of the hike is shaded, some is exposed, so prepare accordingly.

Party time! Immediately after the hike, we'll drive down Santa Susana Pass Rd, hang a left on Katherine Rd, and crash into the Titular Mansion for lunch and laughter. I will supply pizza for the group - you do not have to bring money. What you do have to bring is something to drink (for yourself), and if you want to contribute some other small thing (carrot sticks, cookies, deviled eggs, Cool Ranch Doritos), feel free. I have more than enough plastic utensils, plates, Solo cups, and napkins.

Directions:

Park at Exit 32 (Rocky Peak Rd) on the 118, at the Santa Susanna Pass between Chatsworth and Simi Valley. There's a large dirt lot on the south side of the 118, on Santa Susana Rd. Park there, then cross the 118 to the small lot on the north side.
