Details

http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/e/6/5/c/event_95938972.jpegWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs, cacti-filled desert environs, volcanic rock, riparian forest, and a cool, watery canyon. Many of us have enjoyed the diversity Wildwood offers, but not as many have enjoyed it from the vantage point we'll venture to on this hike- high above it. We'll approach our aerie from the south side, in Newbury Park.

Our 7.4 mile lollipop, with a total elevation gain of about 1400 ft., swoops down to and across a shallow stream before soaring up to a windswept vista that encompasses Barranca, Hill Canyon, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, and Wildwood Park itself. Along the way, aromatic wild mustard and sage mingle in the air, and a wide array of wildflowers are splattered on the hillsides.

The little white dot near the center of the photo on the right is the famed Wildwood teepee, which is high above the waterfall- this is our eagle vantage point.
