A writing group for the early birds or wannabe early birds who aspire to get some writing done in the early hours before the day everything. This is not an evaluation or critique meetup (necessarily), but just a shared commitment to starting the day with coffee, camaraderie and keystrokes. May it serve as a building block for your morning writing practice no matter what kind of writing you're doing.
At this time there is one weekly meeting, Sunday morning. Saturdays and weekdays have been discussed. We're talking about an evening get together just to have a drink or meal and get to know each other with no writing. Some people are sharing their work outside of the group.
This meeting starts at 8:30 am, with half an hour to get plugged in and the chat out of our systems. Promptly at 9:00 am we go quiet and start working. Please bring headphones or whatever you need to go deep into your writing cave and allow others to work. An hour later, you're free, little birdy. You may leave or hang out, while of course respecting the space of anyone who might still be writing.
To give credit where credit is due, this format is borrowed (with love) from Sit Down, Shut Up and Write, a long established writing group that did the work of demonstrating the wisdom of this system. I encourage you to write with these good people during their much more reasonable evening and afternoon hours.
But if you think you have the stones to get up early, please join us.
A Note from Organizer, Jeff Questad.
I started this group to force myself into some morning writing. Now that it's gaining members and people are actually intending to come, I intend to keep it going for the long haul. I am also getting opinions from people. It's not early enough for some, too early for others. The chairs are uncomfortable. I should do weekdays as well. Hemingway was a macho blowhard and I should have used a pun from Lord Of The Rings instead for the name.... "
I am taking all these things into consideration. If you think we should be doing it differently, come to the meetings and say so.
Feel free to friend up with me, Jeff Questad on Facebook, where I may be taking informal feedback on the group or scheduling impromptu work sessions. It's not uncommon for me to go out and write in the evenings or do a weekday morning, and often I will say so on Facebook.
