Hey All-We recently received notice that our group organizer had decided to step down. It was a very abrupt notice. Given more time, I think someone more qualified and prepared than myself would have "stepped up" but rather than have this group possibly disappear, I have decided to take it on.
I don't anticipate making any major immediate changes except to facilitate members that desire to lead a favorite hike or event to have the necessary tools to do that. If you have something that you would like to take on, please go to the homepage and click on "SUGGEST A NEW MEETUP". The leadership team will receive your suggestion and help you to make it a reality. If you are part of the leadership team then you know that anything that you propose will be automatically added to the calendar and posted as an event.
One final note: as a dog owner and someone that enjoys hiking with dogs, I have lifted the ban on dogs on hikes. I know that there are special considerations involved when hiking with dogs but I am leaving it up the dog's owner to be responsible for their own dog. Hike leaders will be asked to put (DOG-FRIENDLY), or (NO DOGS ON THIS HIKE), or (DOGS ALLOWED UPON APPROVAL FROM THE HIKE LEADER). in the title of the hike. It is NOT the leaders responsibility to research if the hike is dog-appropriate; if it is a leash required hike or can be off-leash. It is the dog owner's responsibility to inform themselves about the regulations that exist in the area that the hike will encompass. THERE ARE REGULATIONS THAT PERTAIN TO DOGS ON ALL TRAILS AND IN WILDERNESS AREAS. If you want to hike with your dog, get familiar with those regulations. They are there for your dog's protection, for other people and livestock that use the trails and to protect wildlife.
