For many, the Matrix was a great movie with two flashy but meaningless sequels that were created only to ride on the coattails of the first. For others, the Matrix was a saga that holds deep meaning and provides a great metaphor for the true nature of our existence. What about the Matrix has drawn you here to this group? Are you a fan of incredible special effects movies and just like to talk about a series that was last produced in 2003? Or is there something about the saga that draws you to it, something that you may not even be able to put a finger on?
If you are thinking there is more to the Matrix than you currently understand, you're right. Because there is a lot of symbolism, metaphor, and allegory going on, and on a grand scheme. The Wachowski Brother's really did their homework across a lot of philosophical, religious, and metaphysical disciplines to create an incredible story of one man's transformation from an intellectually bound normal human being to a fully Self-realized divine presence.
But it may also resonate with you because the main premise is a whole hell of a lot closer to what is really going on than most of us want to imagine. No, there isn't any legion of machines or evil demons or the Devil duping you into some false reality. But in a very direct sense, the real you is sleeping and you are dreaming this existence. Your perception that you are an individual you is only part of the program of existence. Yes, even the sense that you are you, the sense that you are an individual, is all a part of the grand program. And so you resonate with the Matrix movies because they are so close to home and you have known it all along. The metaphor is so spot on that some people can awaken directly from that realization alone!(Pssst... wake up!)
The Matrix is a saga that includes the three integral movies (The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions), "The Animatrix," and the cut-scene material from the Wachowski Brother produced video game, "Enter the Matrix." "The Matrix" first movie was a great movie and the Wachowski's did a good job being able to sew up the plot to make it acceptable as a stand-alone movie. But they did that to be able to sell the big-budget project to Hollywood. Whether you believe it or not, they had a great vision from the very beginning and the first movie is only the set-up for the entire series. An inordinate amount of the pivotal sequences in the series come in "The Matrix Reloaded," the second movie. At the end of the first movie, Neo has had his first ego death within the Matrix, but the saga is about his transcendence from his body-bound mind in Zion to the Absolute.
Awakening Within the Matrix will be a series of events utilizing the Matrix Saga as a metaphor for our own conscious awakening. Our first meeting will be to meet and discuss the saga so that you understand the main themes before you start watching the movies again. Our tentative schedule looks like this:

>> Chronologically go scene by scene and discuss (5-10 events)
>> Discuss the Matrix Saga (1 event)
>> Watch other Alternate Reality movies including "The 13th Floor" & "Total Recall."
While we will become very well versed with the movies and other material the objective is to not figure out what the Wachowski's meant or to become Matrix trivia masters. It is to use the material provided as a tool to raise questions about the nature of reality. Additionally, rather than providing answers to questions that arise, we will be helping you dig deeper only to help you find bigger questions that ultimately only you will be able to answer for yourself.
That said, we're going to have a lot of fun with this group. Why have a group that is Matrix themed and not take advantage of one of the coolest themed series of movies of all time? We respect Halloween in that it is the one day that we all acknowledge that we are wearing masks, and in this group, we are going to recognize that we are all wearing masks ALL YEAR ROUND. To that end we encourage you to post your most Matrixy avatar photos and to submit your group name. Feel free to take Morpheous or Trinity or even Neo, and duplicates are totally allowed. Or step out and pick your own name like Shoonya, Kali, or Orion.
We have had Matrix discussion events in the past and they were highly attended so space will be tight and RSVPs will be very important. If you know of a location that can fit 30+, preferably 40+, and has some audio/video capability, please let us know. There will be a separate session for people under 18 years old so that they can discuss the concepts with their peers. They will also be welcome to the open adult sessions, too.
